KANSAS CITY, Kan. — Keon Barnum hit his seventh home run of the season, but the Chicago Dogs could not overcome a late rally by Kansas City as they fell to the T-Bones, 6-5, on Saturday night at T-Bones Stadium.

Dogs starter D.J. Snelten was sharp, allowing just two earned runs on four hits and striking out three over five innings. He left with a 4-2 advantage, but the Chicago bullpen could not hold off a late charge by the T-Bones.

After putting up 11 runs in Friday’s contest, the bats picked up right where they left off, tagging T-Bones starter Marc Magliaro for a run in the first inning. Trey Vavra continued his offensive uptick with a one-out RBI double in the frame to give the Dogs a 1-0 lead.

Shawn O’Malley tied things up in the bottom of the second for Kansas City when he beat out a throw by Jordan Dean in a play at the plate.

However, it wouldn’t stay knotted for long as Keon Barnum launched his team-leading seventh home run of the year deep over the high left field wall, a two-run shot that gave the Dogs back a 3-1 lead.

The T-Bones scored another run immediately after as MLB veteran Daniel Nava drove in Darnell Sweeney with a sacrifice fly to right field, cutting the Dogs’ lead to one.

Carlos Zambrano drove in another run in the sixth inning of the contest, his fourth in his last two games, scoring Tony Rosselli on a fielder’s choice, extending the Dogs’ lead to 4-2.

Kansas City rallied for three runs off of Pedro Echemendia to take a 5-4 lead in the sixth, capped off by a two-run single by Ramsey Romano. Ben Allison took over and allowed one more run before an inning-ending strikeout.

The Dogs got within one run in the seventh with a bases-loaded walk by Rosselli, but the Kansas City bullpen slammed the door over the final two innings to secure the win.

The Dogs wrap up the series against the T-Bones Sunday afternoon with first pitch scheduled for 1:05 PM. Luke Westphal (3-0) will look to extend his scoreless streak opposite Kansas City’s Tommy Collier (1-2).
