Chicago Dogs fall to the Kane County Cougars in front of a sold out Impact Field, 7-3.
The second sellout of the week at Impact Field hosted 6,593 fans for game two between the Dogs and the Cougars.
Jake Carroll made his first start of his professional career in game two for the Dogs. The lefty pitcher previously played collegiately at Northwood University.
Carroll fell behind early in the first inning, allowing back to back doubles to Trendon Craig and Josh Allen.
Jonah Davis joined in on the Cougars’s big first inning, smoking a three run shot to left field, his tenth long ball of the year.
Following a rocky first inning, Carroll turned it around, throwing three consecutive scoreless innings, before allowing two runs in the fifth inning.
Carroll completed his outing with a pitching line of 4.1 innings, six earned runs on four hits, two walks and four strikeouts.
Tyler Driver was the first Dogs pitcher out of the bullpen, entering the game with a runner on first base and one out retired.
Despite getting out of the inning, Driver caused damage, giving up an RBI single to Cornelius Randolph.
The Dogs offense was held scoreless until the bottom of the fourth inning.
Zion Pettigrew broke the shutout for the Dogs, blasting a double to the centerfield wall, driving in Narciso Crook.
Gus Sosa continued his impressive first series with the Dogs, drilling a single off the left field wall, scoring Pettigrew.
Sosa, the newest Chicago Dog, has collected five hits among his first two games with the club.
Nick Novak added to the fourth inning rally, dropping a single to shallow right field, letting Johnni Turbo get to home.
Driver returned the following inning, putting runners on the corners, but escaped the jam unharmed, striking out Harrison Smith for the third out.
Driver found himself out for the seventh inning, loading the bases for Todd Lott to hit an RBI sacrifice fly to deep left field.
After allowing the run, Driver was pulled out of the game, getting replaced by Aidan Kidd.
Kidd, the rookie pitcher, pitched in the previous game, only facing one batter, in which he retired.
Kidd entered the game with just one out retired, having two runners on base. Although Kidd walked a batter, loading the bases, he was able to get himself out of the situation, leaving behind three runners on base.
Kidd went back out on the mound in the eighth and ninth innings, throwing scoreless innings in both.
The Dogs were unable to find run support outside of the fourth inning, dropping the second game of the series.
The two teams will each look for the series victory in game three.
