ROSEMONT, Ill. — Left-handed pitcher Jake Dahlberg has re-signed with the Chicago Dogs, the team announced Thursday.

In 2019, Dahlberg’s first season with the Dogs, he pitched the second-most innings of the team’s starting pitchers, 110.1. To boot, no Dogs starter walked fewer batters per nine innings than the southpaw.

The Dogs weren’t Dahlberg’s first stop in Chicagoland. He graduated from the University of Illinois-Chicago, where he left a legacy as one of the top pitchers in program history. During his boffo tenure with the Flames, Dahlberg became the first Horizon League pitcher ever to earn the conference’s Pitcher of the Year award twice. He also ranks top-five in UIC history for career starts, innings pitched, wins and strikeouts.

Dahlberg grew up in Vancouver, Washington. And despite living 2,000+ miles from St. Louis, he was a rabid Cardinals fan. In the 21st round of the 2017 MLB Draft, those same Cardinals selected Dahlberg.

“I still have the [Cardinals] jersey my mom got me for my 12th birthday,” Dahlberg said. “It has my name and number across the back. The fact that I was able to get drafted by the Cardinals — it was full-circle and a kid’s dream come true.”

He spent the 2017 season with the Johnson City Cardinals, at the Rookie level. Then in 2018, Dahlberg suited up for the State College Spikes (Low-A) and the Peoria Chiefs (Single-A), amassing a 2.50 ERA and 77 strikeouts between the two stops.

Last week, Dahlberg joined Dogs broadcaster Sam Brief as the latest guest on “Zoomin’ With the Dogs.” Click here to watch the full interview, in which Dahlberg chats about his career arc, how he’s spending the downtime and his history as a five-star Uber driver.

On the heels of a consistent 2019 campaign, Dahlberg is itching to return to Impact Field.

“We just want to get outside and enjoy some summertime baseball,” Dahlberg said. “I know I’m excited to get back out there.”
