FARGO, N.D. — The Dogs avoided a sweep at the hands of the red-hot Cleburne railroaders and now look to regroup for a mid-week series against the North Division-leading Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks at Newman Outdoor Field. Tuesday and Wednesday’s games will start at 7:02 PM, and the finale on Thursday is scheduled for a 12:30 PM first pitch.

Chicago (39-27, 3rd North) fought hard but ultimately were out-slugged in their most recent series against the Cleburne Railroaders. Keon Barnum, Jordan Dean, Victor Roache and Rey Gonzalez all contributed with longballs, and Gonzalez’s three-run shot to cap off game two’s 7-6 comeback win was momentous, but the Dogs dropped the bookending contests by scores of 13-6 and 13-8.

LHP Jake Dahlberg will start the series opener on Tuesday night. Dahlberg turned in an excellent start in a 3-0 loss to Milwaukee, surrendering just two earned runs in six innings while striking out eight. But he didn’t get enough run support and dropped his second straight decision. His command has been fantastic, and the pitches that prop up his changeup as the putaway pitch are deadlier than ever.

LHP Luke Westphal gets the call for game two. The last time the Dogs lost a Luke Westphal start was June 27. Since then, the All-Star has been dynamite, most recently throwing six solid innings of two-run ball while striking out seven. He still paces the American Association with 97 strikeouts.

RHP Wes Torrez will start the finale on Thursday afternoon for Chicago. After turning in back-to-back stellar starts, Torrez got banged up against the juggernaut Cleburne offense in the series-opening loss. He’ll look to return to form against the RedHawks.

SCOUTING THE REDHAWKS

The Fargo Moorhead RedHawks (41-25, 1st North) have been dominant this season but limp into the series against the Dogs, having won just three of their last 10 games. Their pitching staff has been the best in the league, entering this series with a 3.63 staff ERA, led by Sunday starer Sebastian Kessay and his perfect 7-0 record and 69 strikeouts. Devan Ahart paces the team offensively with 49 RBI, while Chris Jacobs and Correlle Prime have combined for 25 home runs in 2019.
