The final game of the series between the Chicago Dogs and the Milwaukee Milkmen was suspended with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning.

The game was scoreless through the first five innings as both starting pitchers turned in strong outings. The Dogs’ starter Cade Herrmann and the Milkmen’s starter Christian Young combined for seven strikeouts and 12 scoreless innings.

Milwaukee got on the board first in the top of the sixth after Wendell Marrero drove in Charlie Marion with an RBI single. Edrick Felix extended the Milkmen’s lead to two with an RBI single of his own later that same inning. Milwaukee pulled away in the top of the seventh thanks to a two-run home run by Chase Waddell. Griffin Doersching followed with an RBI single to drive home Yordys Valdes to make it 6-0 in the top of the eighth.

Chicago earned their first run of the evening in the bottom of the eighth when Aaron Altherr scored Jacob Maiben with an RBI single. Derek Maiben cut the lead to four in the bottom of the ninth with a solo home run, his first of the season.

Dogs’ rookie Zack Stokes followed D. Maiben with a single in the bottom of the ninth. Chicago went on to load the bases after Altherr and Ethan Wilder drew walks. As Chicago’s All-Star catcher Jaxx Groshans stepped up to the plate in the bottom of the ninth with two outs and the bases loaded, the umpiring crew signaled for a rain delay. After a 30-minute wait, the decision was made to suspend the game. Play will resume in August when Chicago heads to Milwaukee for a road series. The series will begin on August 11.

The Dogs will welcome the Winnipeg Goldeyes to Impact Field on Friday, July 3. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
