SERIES NOTES: Series Notes June 24-26 vs KC

ROSEMONT, Ill. — The Chicago Dogs are set to open a seven-game homestand with a four-game series against the Kansas City T-Bones at Impact Field. Game starts are slated for 7:05 PM on Monday, 11:30 AM on Tuesday, 7:05 PM on Wednesday, and 6:05 PM on Thursday.

The Dogs (17-15, 4th North) have lost four in a row for the first time all season, most recently being swept on the road by the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks, who have extended their own winning streak to six. Defense doomed the Dogs against Winnipeg, but with zero errors vs. the RedHawks, it was the bats that couldn’t go toe-to-toe with the hot-hitting Fargo ones.

LHP Jake Dahlberg will get the ball for game one on Monday night at Impact Field. The University of Illinois-Chicago product is coming off a tough start against the Goldeyes in which he struck out just one while giving up six runs. Otherwise, he has not given up more than three earned runs in a single start all year.

LHP Austin Wright is set to start game two on Tuesday night. The flamethrowing lefty pitched the lone Dogs win against Winnipeg, an 8-3 victory, going a strong five innings of work, giving up no earned runs and striking out five.

LHP D.J. Snelten will take the mound for game three on Wednesday night. The former San Francisco Giant has been the model of consistency for Chicago this year, and has given up three of fewer earned runs in every start but one, which came on May 23 against St. Paul. His last time out, a couple of key errors extended innings for Snelten, meaning that of the eight runs he have up, only three were earned.

LHP Luke Westphal will start the series finale. Despite an uncharacteristic outing on Friday against Fargo-Moorhead, he gave up six runs on six hits while also striking out 10 and walking just two men. Westphal has been nothing short of spectacular this season. His 53 strikeouts lead the American Association, and his 2.06 ERA is second in the league by just four points. Opponents have hit a paltry .142 against Westphal in 2019.

SCOUTING THE T-BONES

The defending American Association champions Kansas City T-Bones are 17-17 this season and sit in fourth place in the South division despite being just one game out of first place. The T-Bones won their most recent series against the Cleburne Railroaders, and are winners of six of their last 10 games. Casey Gillaspie has played all 34 games for Kansas City and is riding a streak of four straight multi-hit games. Ramsey Romano, who has not pitched since early June, is one of The T-Bones’ best bats, bringing a .338 average as well as three home runs and 19 RBIs to Impact Field.
