ROSEMONT, ILL. — Starting pitcher Tyler Palm opened his Chicago Dogs tenure with a five-inning shutout start to kickstart a 5-0 Dogs win over the Lincoln Saltdogs, the first Chicago victory of the new season.
Three Key Plays:
- In the fifth inning, Lincoln’s Zane Zurbrugg and Cam Touchette both singled and threatened to score. But Palm secured three quick outs to end the threat and keep the Saltdogs scoreless.
- Matt Bottcher drove in two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning with a double to left, extending the Dogs’ lead to 3-0.
- Josh Altmann crushed the first Dogs home run of 2023, lining a solo shot to left field in the seventh.
The Arms: Palm struck out four, allowed just six hits and no runs in a five-inning win. Dalton Sawyer, James Reeves, Johnathon Tripp and Brian Schlitter combined for four clean scoreless relief innings.
Lincoln starter Josh Roeder allowed four earned runs in a 3.2 inning start.
The Bats: Brennan Metzger, Luke Mangieri and Altmann all registered multi-hit games for the Dogs, with Altmann’s 3-for-4 night highlighting the offense. Lincoln recorded zero extra-base hits on the night.
