The Chicago Dogs dropped the second game of their three-game series, 12-3, against the Winnipeg Goldeyes.
The Goldeyes wasted no time getting on the board. A solo home run by Noah Marcello followed by an RBI single from Jiandido Tromp gave Winnipeg a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Marcello would finish the game with two home runs, a double, a triple, and five total RBI in an impressive offensive performance.
Gio DiGiacomo got the offensive attack started for the Dogs with a leadoff double. He was driven home by Ethan Wilder in the next at-bat. Wilder came back in the bottom of the third with another RBI that scored DiGiacomo once more. DiGiacomo delivered an RBI of his own in the bottom of the fourth to make the score 6-3 in favor of Winnipeg.
Will Merriott was excellent in his Dogs debut after relieving Cade Connolly in the third inning. Merriott finished with four innings pitched, one hit, one earned run, two walks, and two strikeouts.
The Dogs will look to avoid the sweep against Winnipeg Sunday, May 31. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
